Spirals, oh my god what is wrong with your eye, horror

So many good movies on at the same time. It's a good morning to Tivo/DVR/record with your VCR. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the evening. Also, I realized this list doesn't cover the horror channel Chiller. Just assume that it has something appropriate for Halloween on every second of every day.

1:30 AM [American Movie Classics]
The Flesh Eaters

Mutant flesh-eating monsters designed from Nazi plans by an American biologist plague an actress, a pilot, and a beatnik named Omar. Starring no one you've ever heard of.

3:00 AM [Turner Classic Movies]
White Zombie

Bela Lugosi playing a local voodoo master called "Murder" attempts to turn a young woman into a zombie. According to Wikipedia, this is the first movie to feature zombies, though not as the insanely quick ravenous beasts nor the shambling monstrosities they are in contemporary film.

3:15 AM [Sundance]
One Missed Call 2

The sequel to the better first film, this one keeps the same "rocks fall, everyone dies" feel that the first one did. Beware the hard candy!

3:30 AM [American Movie Classics]
The Flesh and the Fiends

Burke and Hare (Donald Pleasance! Squee!) kill people in order to provide bodies for unscrupulous doctor (Peter Cushing! Double squee!). Finally, AMC shows something that's an actual classic, even if it's actually British. Keep trying, AMC! One day you might live up to your name.

4:30 AM [Turner Classic Movies]
I Walked with a Zombie

Not much to say about this classic zombie movie, other than apparently back in 2007, the makers of the Saw series announced they were remaking this one. And if that atrocity ever comes to pass and you go to see it, you only have yourself to blame for the downfall of quality horror.

7:45 AM [Encore Action]
Arachnophobia

Jeff Daniels and John Goodman fight spiders! Big evil spiders! Seriously, the spiders want us all dead. Fun fact: Apparently Brandy is in this movie. Who knew?

8:00 AM [ThrillerMax]
Joshua

Now this is a nice creepy little kid movie, featuring disturbing piano playing, mummification, postpartum depression, people getting pushed down the stairs, parents going crazy, and a haunting Dave Matthews song over the end credits.

9:00 AM [FX]
The Faculty

Oh, man, this is a fun movie. High school students suspect their school is the center of a planned alien invasion, and band together to stop it. Featuring Elijah Wood as a wimp who has to save the day (good practice for LOTR), Josh Hartnett as a drug dealer, Jordana Brewster as a cheerleader, and Salma Hayek, Piper Laurie, Jon Stewart, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Patrick, and Famke Janssen as the "Faculty". Yes, it's that great.

10:00 PM [Showtime Beyond]
Scanners

All you need to know is that a head explodes in this movie. It lasts only ten seconds and is easily the best part of the entire film. Thank you, David Cronenberg, for that lasting cinematic contribution.

Picture the original Terminator, if Sarah Connor was a schoolgirl named Misa, destined to become the most powerful fighter against all things sorcerous, the Terminator was an evil spirit bodyhopping from person to person in an attempt to possess the super awesome Misa, and Kyle Reese was a dude named Saiga who travelled not back in time, but forward to find Misa.

There's true love, a teddy bear, a kickass medallion, a severed ear, a giant dragon, and lots of death and despair. Let's just say that there's a reason Misa's the cold, lonely girl she is in the first movie. Several very good reasons, in fact.
