Kicking off the 31 days of Halloween I like to do each year, even though this blog is sadly neglected due to working 30+hours/week, playing epic D&D sessions, and becoming horribly obsessed with even more manga/anime/Asian dramas.
Here are your best options for today (everything in Eastern Standard time). I trimmed this list down from about.com which lists all the horror movies showing each day - I'm sorry, but I can't in good conscience recommend you watch "Vegas Vampires."
12:30 AM Showtime
Scream
The original is actually pretty good for some jumps. The sequels? A little too clever for their own good. And apparently they're making a fourth one as part of a new trilogy, which seems highly unnecessary given the amount of meta-movies about offing teenagers today. I guess everyone needs money right now.
2:50 AM HBO2
Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Evil mask company owner tries to kill children with Halloween masks. Not really related to the first two movies, but strangely ties into the sixth.
9:00 AM Spike
Friday the 13th (1980)
Ah, the original kids get killed in the woods for having sex movie. Nice to see the classics are still being shown to our youth.
10:50 AM ThrillerMax
Jaws
Giant shark tries to kill Roy Schneider and Richard Dreyfuss. Steven Spielberg makes a lot of money.
1:00 PM The Movie Channel
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
To be honest, I've never seen this mockumentary of a slasher horror villain looking to make his big break, but any movie that has Robert Englund, Zelda Rubenstein, and Kane Hodder must be worth looking into.
3:30 PM Showtime Beyond
Spirit Trap
Nifty little British horror movie (shot in Romania) about a haunted house that traps souls. Not terribly scary, but not a bad watch if you're into the whole supernatural architecture subgenre.
5:00 PM IFC
From Hell
Johnny Depp takes opium and tries to catch Jack The Ripper. Mssrs. Ian Holm and Richardson support awesomely, while I wonder who gave the go ahead for Heather Graham to be in this movie.
8:00 PM We
Ghost
Gah. The timing on this movie has to be awkward, but if you can overlook the whole "recently deceased film star playing a ghost" angle, I'm sure you'll enjoy the pottery scene.
11:40 PM The Movie Channel
The Company of Wolves
This is a wonderful dark fairy tale movie and all, but I seriously want an adaptation of "The Bloody Chamber" or "The Lady of the House of Love."

Fields of the Nephilim - Dead But Dreaming
Gregorian - In The Shadows
E Nomine - Herr Der Schatten
Although the 2005 version has been overhauled, the core gameplay is the same. Players select from a variety of characters: professors, archaeologists, debutantes, and other archetypes from Lovecraftian fiction. These characters dwell in the town of Arkham, a city about to be invaded by otherworldly beings. Supernatural gates to other worlds open throughout the game. From these gates emerge strange monsters and their human followers. These monsters wander the streets and threaten the characters. The characters must make their way to the gates, evading or battling the monsters and their human minions. The characters then must travel through the gates, explore the other planes of existence, then return to close the gate. If the character close enough gates the otherworldly threat is foiled, the world is saved and the players win. If too many gates open or the characters take too long the other worlds break through to our world. Some horrible and Lovecraftian horror comes through and destroys the town and probably humanity. The players lose. While rules exist for determining which of the players was most effective and is thus the winner, the focus is on cooperative play. The risk of group failure means teamwork is key. The game features no real mechanism for working against fellow players; the worst you can do is fail to be helpful. -- Alan De Smet
